Lime Pointing
One craft technique that we feel is particularly important in traditional building renovation is the use of lime mortar when carrying out external repointing. Modern hard cement is often used when it comes to replacing missing mortar joints, but this material is not suitable when used within a traditional building. Breathability is compromised and because modern cement is tough and waterproof, this will most likely have a detrimental effect on the external masonry work, culminating in blown brick faces and spalling.
